Since the devs repeatedly state there are multiple influences in most of the cards, you can't tell someone they're wrong because that's who they see.

Also Alexei Monstro seems to be based on Ivan Koloff mixed with Darkseid, NOT Rusev. The only thing similar to Rusev is the jacket..... that's about it. There's a few more that are different but I'm sure people can figure those out. Mack Caliber is a John Cena inspired character. I see Koloff as extremely old-school to be considered modern(he started in 1960). The only influence i see on Monstro is literally him being Bald and Russian. Cena had a feud with Rusev throughout 2015 and literally had a match based around National superiority in 2017, 2yrs before this board was made. I'll add him though.
Yeah, Thanos is a rip on Darkseid, but the character design for Monstro is obviously based on Thanos, they chose Purple and Yellow. if it was Darkseid, the color's would be Black and Steel Blue, or a completely different looking character design.
The Cheapest Wrestler Matt Rivera is an EXTREME deep cut. Guy literally doesn't even have a wiki page, from what I could search. I don't think the dev's would dig that deep to find inspiration when they're using mainstream and pop-culture.
I decided who's who using Occam's Razor. Who else do you think is not correct, that I should try to justify?

It's much more likely Monstro is more based off of Rusev than Ivan Koloff who hasn't been "modern" in 40-50 years. Regardless people can see in these characters what they want it would be nice of you to take a different tone as you come across poorly especially for your first posts. |

ProTip: If you want to suss out which wrestler(s) is/are the likely source that the devs are pulling from, look at their vital statistics. Monstro, regardless of gimmick, is 6’7” and 303 pounds. 6’7” is Thanos’ comic book height. 303 pounds was Rusev/Miro’s billed weight in WWE. Thus, it is a pretty safe bet to say Miro and Thanos inform that character’s design.
This will never mean there aren’t other inspirations as has been made clear time and time again. It seems likely that Monstro (Hulk) was the original design, even though he is the alt in game. After all, he was the first character we saw when MMW was announced. Alexei Monstro probably came second and certain features were retained by Monstro’s design. It is not unreasonable, then, that the choice was made to make Alexei resemble a throwback to the Soviet heel archetype. Thus, a guy like Ivan Koloff could be used to give that persona it’s seasoning.
In short, everybody is probably right and/or no one is wrong. It is completely reasonable to say that Monstro is a blend of Thanos, Miro, and Soviet wrestlers like Ivan Koloff. Someone could come along and say Zangief from Street Fighter and they’d be no more or less wrong than anyone else. After all, Zangief was patterned after the actual wrestler Victor Zangiev who was from? Yes, the Soviet Union.

I don't think I've seen it mentioned, but I see a bit of Scorpio Sky in Amari Fang/White Fang. Scorpio Sky actually started out as a masked wrestler and his gear at that time is quite similar to Amari Fang's. Size is a close enough fit and Scorpio was an AEW tag title champion when MMW was in development and released.

On overall premise, I can't disagree that there are talents getting ignored in favor for WWE and AEW-inspired creations, though. Jim and Jay Uso, Jade, Hook, Vince clone, Hangman Page, Randy Orton, The Rock, Stone Cold. That's who we've got from Dec/Jan to Jul. Hook has hardily been around for a year or had a real match, and is already in the game. We could use other Promotions. They could continue a legacy adding Ross, Marshall, and Lacey Von Erich; Alex Hammerstone;Motor City Machine Guns/Time-splitters Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, and Kushida; OGK/Honor No More Kenny King, PCO, Matt Taven, Mike and Maria Kanellis-Bennett; American Wolves Eddie Edwards and Davie Richards; Masha Slamovich; Killer Kelly; Ace Austin and Chris Bey; Decay; an actual LAX team; Mecha Wolf 450; Kylie Rae; Kamille etc. Just for North America off the top of my head, would be cool to see get added in. |

I’m a big fan of a lot of the guys you mentioned there. But as fans, we should also remember that this is a game trying to attract more players so it is far, far more likely that new characters will draw from the biggest companies with the most TV exposure. We don’t have in-game equivalents for huge names like CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Bobby Lashley… etc. You could even make an argument that characters based off pop references ( Mandalorian? Stranger Things?) or celebrity wrestlers like Logan Paul would be better additions than lesser known Indy talents. I’m a proud wresting nerd but I fully expect that this game shouldn’t be for ONLY wresting nerds |
