Ace's A1 Pinnacle (RESULTS)

[Ace of Spades]

Good afternoon! Welcome to the first press conference regarding the 1980 A1 Pinnacle Tournament.

Initially, I was going to separate the Heavyweight/Cruiserweight Tournaments, but after careful consideration, I have decided that Ninja Star, Arizona Chance, O'Hooligan, Devin Van Winkle, and Death Star Boy should have the opportunity to test themselves against the best talent available.

As it stands, this will be a round robin tournament featuring four blocks. A, B, C, and D. There will be eight in each block.

Right now, we have split the 28 wrestlers (Legends, Main Eventers, Upper Midcarders) into their respective blocks, randomly. Here is what we have so far:

Chameleon Kid - Always had a soft spot for him

Mercenary - Screwjob?!
Vladimir the Cruel - Because no one resists Zuul

[Syrius Krash]

Magnus Muscle: A purebred athlete, incredible worker, and more then capable of providing a great challenge to anyone in the tournament.

Mad Arab: He's freaking insane, and willing to do anything to win. He gives no regard to his opponent's safety, which makes him the perfect choice for this tournament.

Brute: A towering mass of pure muscle, he will stand tall over the rest of the competition. It will be insanely hard to take this man off his feet, much less defeat him.

Skullgore: A sneaky, conniving trickster who does anything he can to win. Expect him to get a lot of controversial wins, using any trick in the book.

Because you two are pumped about this, and because I don't want to wait for more responses, I put all eight of your selections into a randomized list. I decided each of you would get two of your selections.

Thus, Drool is in Block A and Vladimir the Cruel is in Block D, while Brute is in Block B, and Mad Arab is in Block C.

I edited the opening table to show everyone's push rating, and as you can see, it's pretty close. Block averages for push are:
A - 86 (total) - 10.75 (avg)
B - 90 (total) - 11.25 (avg)
C - 89 (total) - 11.125 (avg)
D - 89 (total) - 11.125 (avg)

As it stands, the favourites have to be:

NOTE: Only the winners of each pool advance to the "playoffs". The winners of the four blocks will be randomly placed against each other, with those two winners facing off in the finals for the A1 Pinnacle Cup.

Minor Upsets -
Not many people expected Reptile Ranger and Troglo to win their opening matches, but they did, by defeating Arizona Chance and Fireball respectively. The tournament is already proving you cannot always bet against the slight underdogs.

Mighty Leo with a Mighty Fall -
Exotic Rick was expected to lose to Leo, and it wouldn't have been a big deal. After all, Mighty Leo is a solid worker. That being said, Rick didn't give up, and it'll be interesting to see if he can steal a few more matches.

Van Winkles Are For Real -
Both Terry and Devin may have come up short, but both brothers put on mat classics, earning three-star reviews in their matches. It's rare to see them, and yet they each earned one in their debut.

A Time Limit Draw?! -
What a battle between Valedictorian and Mr. Tycoon. After refusing to lay down, Valedictorian came out strong, and Tycoon held his own. In a match that was expected to be one-sided, Tycoon proved he belonged with the big boys.

Dude Brohan Drops His First Match -
People love Dude, and people love Guy, but my goodness. The pop heard around the arena when Average Guy pulled the upset? Massive. The handshake at the end was a nice touch. Many pundits predicted the Dude would go undefeated in the round robin -- now he has to fight back just to win his pool!
