The Legend Mercenary deserves better

Going from a midcard tag team wrestler to a legend in the industry is a big deal. He was already one of the best in the ring, but still managed to get better (+1 skill). Gaining 8 push points is huge too.

But for Mercenary to gain 0 mic and pop points is absurd. It's an absolute travesty.

He might have never been the most exciting guy or best talker. But he definitely got better in the 90s.

I seriously think adding 6 more points to Mercenary (3 mic, 3 pop), is the right thing to do.

We need to get a petition going or talk to someone who can go in and just tweek the numbers a bit.

9 fueds, the top skill in the game, 200 merch, AND a full 9 year run time? Nah, he’s fine the way he is right now, maybe trading 1 skill for +1 muc and pop, but other than that, I see no problem with his current stats

Having his pop so low means there needs to be a re-watch of all his matches in Canada as a face.

Although I wasn't happy Vince turned him Anti-American, at least with The Hart Foundation faction he was cutting some great promos. Of course by the late 80's / Early 90's he had some really decent face ones too before they made him The Face of The New Generation. Something just felt off during that point until him and Stonecold started their rivalry.

Bret had a long and great career, and for most of it he wasn't a very good promo. By the far the best was the heel anti-American Hart Foundation, but that was not a great percentage of his career. Fantastic wrestler but not the best promo and charisma guy.

I've thought about this one for awhile. And honestly in the early 80s when he was Flash he sucked. As Rock from The Blade Runners he had some decent grunting. As The Dingo Warrior (for who knows wtf reason) in WCCW he learned to talk some but his energy picked up. Leading to The Ultimate Warrior from the late 80's on, where no one could clue in on wth he was screaming, but he had so much explosion, excitement, what, even as a drug aware teenager, I just saw as adrenaline. His energy got me pumped up and ready to work out, or Wrestle with my buddies, way more than Hogan or anyone else in the 80s ever did.

I don't really care too much about who the character is based on because this game stands alone. I think it's foolish to say the real-life inspiration was X, so the in-game version has to be X. Mercenary is not Bret Hart. Mercenary is Mercenary, a character inspired by Bret Hart. That's a necessary distinction.

That said, Merc is the second worst Legendary in the game by Draw. There are two dozen or more Main Eventers who have a higher Draw (including alts). There are almost 20 Upper Midcarders with a higher Draw. By Draw, Merc kinda gets screwed.

Except look at his perks: 10 years (only two legendary have more, and one of them is the Legendary with a lower Draw). Nine feuds (the most in the game, I think), including a 2* feud. He is part of a trios team, and there aren't too many of those in the '90s. He has a venue bonus, and only half the Legendary characters have one. As a Rassler, he has two unique match bonus cards (Showman/Bigmouth have none; there are three of those among Legendary characters).

The game aims for balance. Everything is not based just on Draw. He has a lower Draw, but everything else helps even the playing field. Merc can be a powerful card if you use it right.

The only thing I would say in response to this is, yes, Mercenary is not Bret Hart, nor is any character in this game any particular person. But they are partly created from those wrestlers we knew and loved from the 80s and 90s, as well as other pop culture references from the time period as well, but at the core they just feel to me like the real wrestlers from those years. The devs have even said many times that each character is a mix of things and shouldn't be looked at as a single person.

He may not be be Bret Hart but his "feud" structure certainly leans that way...but your point is well made. People have to consider that when making a game like this the devs have to tread the fine line of likeness rights and parody laws so as to make the game both appealing while at the same time not having to deal with unnecessary litigation.

But I believe Mercenary should have at least a 2 star feud. Am I wrong in thinking this?
