I think it's a water gun, though I can't think of what it might be referencing.

I think it could be referencing just a regular gun. I remember a while back I watched some video that explained how the gun emojis were changed from regular guns to more cartoony ones. It could still be a laser gun though, so don’t leave that out of the question.
