First, let me say that I LOVE this game. To the point where I've spent over $100 buying tokens, and I usually never spend real money on mobile games. I'm still om my first playthrough, and I'm trying to take the completionist route....but there's an issue:
In order to complete the card collection, I need to obtain all of the merch cards. In order to get all of the merch cards, I have to completely level up all of the wrestlers, correct? The issue I'm having is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the leveling system. I get that certain show spots effect certain attributes (Mic Spot-MIC, Skit-POP, Match-SKILL)....
However there's no way to know how close you are to your next attribute point. I've been booking Jet Set Strutter nonstop in matches for almost two consecutive in-game years in hope of getting just a single skill point....nothing.
Do you all think that its possible to implement some kind of bar or countdown to measure progress? The goal would increase as the levels get higher. For example, it would take 8 Mic Spots to level up MIC from 4 to 5. Then 10 Mic Spots to go from level 5 to 6. Something alomg those lines.
This way I would be able to tell if Jet Set is 5 matches away from his merch card or 50. It would help to quell lots of players' frustration with booking cards and not seeing the cards progress. If this has already been suggested, then I apologize.

well, the issue with that idea is that it's been stated before that it is entirely randomized. Just keep putting those people in matches, bro. I wish you the best of luck

I wish you the best of luck I had no idea that it was random. I guess I'll just cross my fingers lol It's not "entirely randomized." If that's been stated somewhere, that's inaccurate. Here is a thread that covered this question. Hope it helps! 80smaniawrestling.proboards.com/thread/441/skill-level-work?page=2

There was a belief back in the first 80MW that putting a wrestler whose Skill you wished to increase against one who had the exact same Skill level was how you got that final point. For example, if you wanted to get that final Skill point for Mercenary (80s heel version), then you'd put him up against a maxed-Skill Arizona Chance. Your Mercenary's Skill is at 15, Arizona Chance maxed out is 15. Back then, it was actually more than a belief; the majority of the board accepted this as fact.
We now know that is not the case. Because of how the cards were designed back then, you didn't automatically know what the max value for each card was. I mean, it was always +3, but a lot of people forgot what the initial rating was. That's why those two stickied posts exist, each wrestler listed with his starting attributes and their maxed out ones. So, this was demonstrably false once enough people were able to prove Skill increases happening against people who did NOT have the same Skill rating.
The post Mr. Fantasy directed you to was, to the best of my knowledge, the first time a (the?) developer offered a little more insight into the process of leveling up.
I say all this because that once held belief may still offer some anecdotal evidence about increasing the likelihood of Skill increase. We know from what Mr. Fantasy has said that there is a formula. It's not completely random, but because of the RNG, luck is an element. I hypothesize, and this is just my opinion based on what we know and what I've personally experienced, that something in that formula increases the chance of a Skill increase if the two (or more) wrestlers involved in a match have a *similar* rating. High skilled wrestlers SEEM to be more difficult to max out, but I'm less confident about pushing that assertion. I've had guys with Skill in the 7-9 range which took just as long, if not longer, to get the last Skill point as with higher skilled wrestlers. If I'm right about the similar skill thing, then it could provide an explanation to why it seems to take so long with high Skill wrestlers: the higher the skill is, the less opponents of a similar skill are generally available to create more ideal conditions.
So, that's just some food for thought if you are finding it difficult to get that last skill point. Please remember this is just one man's opinion. I certainly would encourage anyone else to share their thoughts, whether they think there is something to my hypothesis or not.

About 3 game years trying to get Mercenary (80's) final skill point. Came in a win over Jobber Joe. I've found that he is easily, the most difficult wrestler in the game to get skill points for. I almost hate buying foils for him because I know how difficult it is/will be to max out his stats.

Trying to get Zap his final skill point since 1981. It's now 1987.
I've tried Rumbles, tag matches, 6 (wo)man matches, matches with jobbers, matches with main eventers, matches with people same skill level, intergender. No joy.
Same with Exotic Rick - although I only got him in a position to get the last skill point in 1983.
Any other tips?
Also - is it even possible to gain skill points from the "Opener's" or "Midcarder's" only matches and Title matches?
TIA for any help!

I had several that this was a major problem with, now I’ve only got Reptile Ranger and Mercenary that are stubbornly stuck, but I’ve found battle royals a really handy way of getting the skill stat up. On a 20 man battle royal I’m regularly seeing 3 or 4 of my cards get the skill stat boost. Stacking the spot with maxed out cards and some of the stragglers has helped me push some of them over the line

I am about to go second time throughout the 80s with 1 skill point left on the normal Glam and Ace of Spades card. Anyone have any luck maxing them? If there is some "secret" match that could help increase their skill point, I am open to trying anything at this point as I have 6 months left in the decade before they retire until my next playthrough.

Since the point increase is semi random, just keep using thoes characters. It is harder to bump skill than mic or pop, as it is easier to learn to speak better or be more popular, but it is harder to learn to wrestle better.
