Since MMW tracks your cards total W-L record, we know exactly how many matches each cards has participated in. We can then take that info, compare it to how quickly each card gets skill upgrades, and determine a rough estimate of how many matches it will take to get a card to max out skill. Here’s my data so far:
Upper Midcard: 96 total matches, 7 skill points for three wrestlers (7.3% rate) Midcard: 171 total matches, 12 skill points for seven wrestlers (7.0%) Opener: 318 total matches, 25 skill points for 28 wrestlers (7.8%)
Limited data, but a couple of working theories:
1. The base rate is somewhere around one point every 12-15 matches. 2. Card level has little to do with skill upgrade speed (see below for a theory) 3. Holding a belt has no effect (my three upper midcarders have almost always had a title, openers rarely have by comparison)
Some things not so easy to test—
1. Whether or not a feud match has a higher rate 2. If wrestling a higher skilled opponent makes a card go up faster (openers slightly increased rate may be due to having a lower skill and sometimes going against midcarders and upper-mids) 3. It may be easier to get your first skill upgrade than subsequent points (this is an alternate explanation to #2)
Obviously this is a small sample size, as I’m only about 15 months in. Myst, feel free to use this in your beginners guide if you find it useful. And if others would share their results, maybe we can put some generalizations together to help out new players down the line.

But anyway, it'll forever be a behind the scenes roll of the dice to me. My alexi monstro has had 262 matches and only got 25/26 skill around the 240 match mark. My swish has had 104 matches and has reached max skill, no sort of training (i refuse to pay 20k )

So, he’s gotten 4 points for you in 262 matches, which is a rate significantly lower than what I would expect (yours is 1.5%). I don’t yet have Swish, so I don’t know how many points you’ve gained with him... or if you reached max before the 104 matches.

My Alexei has a 214/106 record, so a combined 320 matches and his skill is 25/26, so my rate would be even lower.
I feel like all cards get the first couple of points quite easily. Maybe the succes rate for gaining another skill-point drops slightly whenever you have already gained a point in skill.

My Alexei is at 2 upgrades (23/26) after 40 matches. I think that’s probably a fair takeaway— perhaps upgrades slow down the closer you get to the max.

Another example then would be gunslinger who is 25/26 after 203 matches or chester blood is 21/22 after 236 matches. Whats my rates etc?
