Hello everyone. It’s time to learn about the differences between Modern Mania and 80s Mania. There is a comment on my previous part that went over these changes to an extent (thanks Uranus and Arizona), but I’m going to crack it down in detail, alongside a few other things that might not have been noticeable.
(Heads up, this part is going to be a lot shorter compared to the previous parts, but it should get the point across.)
1. The stats for wrestlers are a lot higher in Modern Mania.
This is the first obvious note, and we first learned of this from a preview video on the back of a wrestler card. In particular, Gunslinger. Gunslinger is an Upper Mid-Card with a total draw of 97, and while that is high, there are players that have already found that cards can go up to 120+. This is nearly double of what the highest Total Draw in 80s Mania was at 66 (78 if foil). In fact, 66 in Modern Mania is what a Midcard wrestler will have midway through leveling up. In short, if you thought the numbers were big in 80s Mania, just wait until you go to Modern Mania.
2. It’s a lot harder to get good star ratings in Modern Mania.
The downside to this notion however, is that it makes star ratings a lot harder to get, especially for matches. Getting 3 stars in any match as of now is considered an achievement, because of how high the stat total is. This doesn’t mean that a good show isn’t possible, it just means it’s a challenge.
3. Sponsor cards give random amounts of money every show instead of a consistent value.
This is something that can catch certain players off guard, but it is true. Sponsor cards in 80s Mania give a consistent value and it scales with how far you’re in the game. In Modern Mania, however, Sponsors don’t give a consistent value every show. Instead, it will choose a value from 10 to 100, and that will be it’s value for that week. Yes, you read that correctly, the sponsor value changes every week, so it is possible to get two $100 sponsors for a show. It is best to check the back of every single sponsor card you own every week so you know which ones to use for your shows. As you get more sponsor cards, you’ll get more chances are getting a high value sponsor, or enough to run an entire show.
4. Mic and Pop values in Mic Spots and Skits are random.
In 80s Mania, Mic and Pop were consistent with the stat shown on the card. So if a wrestler had 7 Mic, they’d provide 7 points for a Mic Spot. In Modern Mania, the Mic and Pop stats will act similar to Skill in which it will provide a random value up to the stat on the card. For example, if a wrestler has 20 Mic, then that wrestler can give a Mic value of up to 20. How low this goes, I don’t know, but it is possible that it can go down to 0.
5. Manager Cards are now called Event Cards.
In 80s Mania, there were Manager cards which allowed you boost the stats of a wrestler for the match, mic spot, or skit that wrestler is in. Now, these are called Event cards. They are used the same way as Manager cards, but they aren’t actually managers, but instead events.
So, these are the main differences between 80s Mania and Modern Mania that affect the core game play experience. There are more tournaments in Modern Mania and there is the Hardcore mechanic, but those usually don’t affect gameplay as much as these 5 key differences. With that said, if there is anything I missed, comment it down below so other players know them as well. Next time, we’ll look at what makes a good wrestler in Modern Mania.
