I think a perfect balance between a mix of these is the way to go. It can reach more audiences who will tune in to watch what they like about the show. But, I do think that keeping these different kinds of wrestling all in the theme of whatever show it is will make it successful above all. For example, in NJPW they have a mix of high spots and tough, hard-hitting pro wrestling and that works. But what wouldn't work is if you mix in pure, serious wrestling with crazy mid 90s WWF gimmick characters.

A good balance can make a show great.
The sport aspect of the show is what makes it physical, and that's what makes it enjoyable. The imagination of the gimmicks and the imagination of the stories can make you invested in a character. If you have a cowboy gimmick, make me believe you are an actual cowboy. If you brawl, make me believe that you can fight. Don't cheat me out of my money and make it seem cheap.
Don't trash bag it either, as it makes it look like "anyone can do it".
