Had this stewing around in my head for a few wrestlers, feel free to add any in this thread. None of these actually are part of the game, but they add background flavor to the characters.
Gunslinger is Arizona Chance. Despite having a grand career as Arizona, and hopping onto the Space Opera trend as Chance Solar, Chance was unable to reach the heights of the 80's and 90's, as creative had no clue what to do with him by 1995-1999. This, coupled with the decline in Space Opera movies, a break-up with Sgt. Shipley, and a fallout with Hairy and Orion Northstar, led him to quit the biz for several years, as he became overshadowed by icons like Blockbuster Brohan and Ace of Spades. But, it roped him back in, as he was offered a premium deal as a wild west wrestler. Better yet, he was brought back to help train the modern generation. Although there are few who believe in the connection, none seem the wiser about the Gunslinger.
The Undermaster was buried alive by Ace of Spades in their final match of the century, ending the satanic panic fans tuned in to see. However, after Ace moved to partial, non-wrestling appearances before finally retiring, the man behind the Undermaster accepted returning to train the latest generation of superstars. As a result, the Slashmaster rose... again, retaining his well-known early 90's appearance and providing a tough challenge for modern wrestlers to face against. So far, his streak has yet to be broken, and the seemingly eternal Slashmaster (one of two in the biz to be known as eternal, alongside Grand Manga) is not slowing down.
Carolina Strutter, Destiny, Tarah Thompson, and Pink Champagne, when they were training to be in the business, were often called the "Platinum Club" due to being in the same class and their close friendships. Strutter and Thompson's lineage allowed them to get ahead of Destiny and Pink Champagne, the former creating a vibrant rivalry that, at times, became a partnership; the latter led to the establishment of the popular Sky Diamonds, and ultimately, their separation, as Destiny became part of the Imperial Dynasty, and Pink became Satin after donning the Jacket.

I remember someone posting a headcanon that Ruffian/Ruffules would be repackaged as Alexei Monstro.

Abe and Chester are childhood friends and worked the indie scene together.
Manga ran a wrestling school before his return in the 00's and 10's. He became a big rival to Lion Hero's wrestling school. At Wardome every year the federation have Enyu and Lion Hero, the 2 schools top graduates, face each other.

Arizona Chance/Chance Solar is 80s Mania's version of Harrison Ford. Gunslinger/Pale Rider has HBK flavor, especially the Pale Rider gimmick. Grimcraft's other gimmick of Buzzard is supposed to be based on Kylo Ren which based on Force Awakens means Chance Solar would be Buzzard's father. Gunslinger (for me at least) would come from VTC pulling a Triple H and becoming Vlad the Conqueror (based on Triple H's King of Kings gimmick) where he retires High Flying Kid for several years.
During his time in exile, HFK does some soul searching taking on the persona of The Gunslinger to atone for being a huge douche during the past decade or so. Along the way he meets people who will become friends or foes who guide him back to the wrestling federation. Now then, the only thing that could solidify that would be updated alts for VTC and Tiffany Fantasy....my choice would be Vlad the Conqueror and something like Queen Tiffany or High Priestess Tiffany

I remember someone posting a headcanon that Ruffian/Ruffules would be repackaged as Alexei Monstro. Check Slashmaster's Superstar Spotlight for the complete Alexei Monstro story.I'm hoping to finish my current playthrough of 8MWR with Ruffian as World Champion so he can continue his reign in MMW.
It's already implied in-game, but in my MMW Seraph (Magnifico Jr.) and Diablo are the twin sons of Magnifico
Also, Marvelo Vale is going to be Dr. B's son wether he likes it or not.

Great topic.
When the game starts, Slashmaster has gone away from the Undermaster name because wrestling has become more ‘realistic, so he’s less ‘supernatural force’ and more ‘goth biker’ . A few years into the game, he loses a months long feud against Jakob Hearse and disappears for over a year. He comes back in the original mask to take his revenge but Hearse has said that this new masked monster isn’t the actual Slashmaster. Krool? Still working that out...
Domingo and Mack Caliber both start the game as established stars. Not quite 80s head canon but both guys were big Names during those ‘missing years’ and now they’re approaching the part timer status.
Gunslinger isn’t Arizona but they did work Together and team up early in Gunslingers career. The fans support Gunslinger but Caliber is still the bigger name and the more commercially relevant star creating a Daniel Bryan / John Cena dynamic when the game starts
Mighty Leo has a couple huge years in my Play through but by 95 I couldn’t think of anything for him so he spent a Lot of time being loaned out. In my head it was him going to become an even bigger star in Japan. So it’s an easy transition to Shaolin Hero leaving the company for a few months to level up and become Lion Hero; Mighty Leo’s finisher Thunderstroke was a Superman punch so Mighty Roar is a top rope Superman punch

Reading all this does make me hope that we Eventually get some kind of in game hint as to what happened to the Fantasy family and a Mic Spot for Ace of Spades’ podcast and maybe some kind of special Event card that allows you to use The Hunk at a P4v.

Just getting back into the game so forgive me if my name are wrong. I seen Monstro being the baby of Hammerhead and Ms. Russia XD.. Lucky Charlie has some resemblance to The Agent zero 90s card and Zona Chance... maybe Charlies just stealing gimmicks from the past

These are just my headcanons, so apologies if some elements don't line up. Also, I haven't unlocked a few of the below gimmicks yet, so may get some info wrong there, too.
Magnus Muscle continued wrestling for a few years, until he broke his freakin neck in a match with a young Mack Caliber and was forced into retirement. From there, he opened a wrestling school and helped train, among others, Reba Roughneck and Domingo.
Black Plague is none other than Mr Fantasy. After a disagreement over how to run the business, Blaine was disowned by Mr Fantasy, and disappeared from the wrestling world altogether. Tiffany, worried that she may be next, hatched a plot with Vlad the Cool to overthrow her father and take over his wrestling empire for herself. Vlad enlisted the help of UnderMaster, whose supernatural abilities were paramount to the banishment of Mr Fantasy. After multiple years, as Tiffany and Vlad transition away from being the public faces of the Federation, and as UnderMasters power fades, Mr Fantasy breaks the bonds that held him, and returns to reclaim what is rightfully his. Building an army from the children of his most loyal supporters and modern influencers, Mr Fantasy intends to release a plague on the Federation that spurned him. A Black Plague...
Following from above, Mr Europa is the son of either Yuppie VP or Mr Tycoon. Siberia is the daughter of Hammerhead and Mother Russia (as her card states). Cyber Red is an evil social media influencer. And Officer Foo is one of Mr Europa's "contacts." Tiffany and Vlad still run the Federation, but have pulled out of the spotlight for now; they may return when Mr Fantasy reveals himself, or they may not. Blaine runs a successful VOD company in Asia.

^^^^^LOL I like these. Black Plague is the Higher Power and the "lethal dose of poison!" With MMW hitting on Marvel properties, a Magnus Muscle/Captain America alt deserves to exist. It does in my customs at least.
It's hard to piece these all together because I feel like there's too much missing from MMW. I still feel like there's a lot missing from 80s/90s as well. It's still fun and all but I'm spending more time creating my own wrestlers to fill out the universe better.

In my world, Chugger grew up near an Native American reservation, where he learned the “way of the bison” from Chief Buffalo.
He-Beast, after his time in Scotland as Beastheart, returned to Cimmeternia and trained his young squire, Claymore.

Figured I'd bump this with some new ideas.
After teaming with Dizzy Lixx throughout the 90's, Killer Klown was left in a weird spot in the inter-period before Modern Mania. Lixx and Cadaver ended up teaming up in a music career, touring around the world, and horror-clown movies did little to keep Klown's popularity afloat. Tired of the wrestling life, Klown retired from the ring, but not before recommending one of his cousins to the business: Icepick Dominic. When Dominic pushed the Slapstick persona, he often referenced Killer Klown, wanting to be an evolution of the character.
Ziggy Thrash, while part of the infamous Zombie Dynasty, is not the original. His predecessor was, in fact, his brother, Davy Thrash. The original Zombie Punk/Zombie Skater rocked around the 80's and 90's as a jobber, building up a cult following through the reckless use of his body as a weapon. Although limited by the major federations, his time in backyard wrestling federations earned him a name across neighborhoods everywhere. People took the character so seriously, in fact, that when he had a heart attack after making a high-flying dive, the crowd gathered believed it was part of the act. He won, but he died on the spot. Since then, Ziggy has memorialized his brother through the paint and the dirt he wears.
Prior to their reappearance in Modern Mania, Tatters and Rager Gage created their own wrestling federation: High Thrills Wrestling. This small, backyard-sized federation involved the likes of Ziggy Thrash, Keziah, Maniac Murphy, Mad Manson, Trip Lambo, and Paradise before they made the major wrestling scene, complete with death-defying moves and uncensored promos within the Gage Compound. Their magnum opus was the Broken Brotherhood storyline, where Rager Gage had gone insane following the perceived success his brother got over him through the 90's, resulting in an hour-long wrestling "movie" that saw the two battle across their entire mansion lot. It was well-acclaimed, and earned Rager Gage the respect and popularity he deserved. Since then, the Gage Compound has been referred to as the "Revival Church", and its members part of the Revival Militia.

Chugger was an all-conference offensive lineman and wrestler in high school. Ruffian, his wrestling coach, recommended that Chugger start a pro wrestling career, and trained him in the sport. When Chugger finally made it big, he used Ruffian's old finishing move, the Keg Stand, as a homage to the person who introduced him to the sport.
