Anyone got it yet?
I am tempted but wondered how easy/hard it was to play?

I'm waiting for the Switch release. All reviews of the game I've read so far have been mostly positive.

I wonder how the gameplay is. The old Nintendo 64 wCw games were top notch. The controls were simple and it had a high replay ability factor. I still play those games today

I still play those games today Given that it is considered to be an official sequel to WWF Wrestlefest, I would imagine it plays a lot like.... WWF Wrestlefest. Arcade style gameplay, nowhere near as deep as the AKI games. I haven’t played it, but a friend has and his only criticism was a minor one, saying they could have made the sprites bigger. I’ll check it out eventually.

I’ve played the original WrestleFest sometime in the past decade on an emulator. For what it is, it is pretty fun. The game came out in 1991 so the controls are pretty simplistic: just two buttons and a joystick. There were a few modes, including a Royal Rumble and a tag team tournament.
THQ did an updated version in 2012 that only hit iOS. It was supposed to be released on the modern consoles and PC, but THQ ended up going bankrupt soon after and those never saw the light of day. The roster was a mix of current WWE wrestlers and legends. The base roster was only 8 wrestlers, but they released 30 more characters over a series of several DLC packs. I never played it, but I was interested how they’d approach a game with the same mechanics over two decades later.
Retromania is supposed to add more wrestlers through DLC as well. I don’t know if they’ve announced anything further about those, but I figured I’ll wait until they follow through with some of those additions.

The first three DLC characters will be James Storm, Mr. Hughes and Chris Bey, with more to come. I just got the game and played a couple of matches, but it'll take me some time to get good at it.
