Greetings, grapple fans!
We've only had one round of the 2023 J-1 Pinnacle Tournament, and already we've seen some shocking upsets and major moments. Based on tonight's card, there's the potential for even more this week. Let's take a look at the matchups this week:
Block A:
Omega Satyros (1) vs. Bad Luck Bradley (2)
While many would say that the time limit draw between Omega Satyros and Arizona Chance last week felt like the right result, almost no one would say that they predicted Bad Luck Bradley managing a victory over "Lord" Taylor Thorin. Satyros will be looking to pick up his first victory, but can Bradley make it two in a row?
Arizona Chance (1) vs. Duke Mongoose (0)
A rematch from last year's tournament, Chance will be looking to repeat last year's results by defeating Mongoose. It was a close battle last year, and a win by Mongoose would have ended Chance's run for the cup. This year it's still early on, but Mongoose will be hoping to play spoiler to the World Heavyweight Champions' chances at a repeat.
Red Pirate Rogers (2) vs. "Lord" Taylor Thorin (0)
This one is for more than just points, although points are in play. The issues between Rogers and Thorin go back several months, and things certainly were not settled in their 5 vs 5 team battle. Thorin will be looking to punish Rogers for his "crimes" as well as to pick up a victory after his shocking defeat at the hand of Bad Luck Bradley. Rogers will be looking to turn his Lordship into a figurehead and receive a full pardon. This one should be intriguing!
Block B:
Tommy End (2) vs. Pierre The Enormous (0)
End kicked off his return to the JWA with a big statement win over Seph Kobane last week. Unfortunately, Pierre cannot say the same thing as he was defeated by his former tag team partner in the first round. End will be looking for another statement victory here tonight, but Pierre won't be going down without a fight. These two men have competed in every J-1 Pinnacle Tournament but neither man has ever won it. A victory here tonight will be crucial for either of them to make it to the finals.
Chad Shredsbury (2) vs. Chief Buffalo (0)
Following his victory at Guts & Gory, Chad continued his momentum last week with a victory in the first round over his former tag team partner. It would seem that, despite the fans not welcoming his change of demeanor, its done wonders for his in-ring success. The big chief came up short against his former tag team partner last week, and he'll be looking to rebound and pick up some crucial points against the former "Dude of Wales".
Penguino (2) vs. Seph Kobane (0)
Kobane had a tough draw last week having to face the returning Tommy End, but things don't get any easier for him in this round as he'll be taking on the fired up Penguino. While neither man/bird entered this tournament as an odds-on favorite, they both have the ability to make a major move with a win here tonight.
Let's get the action underway! Get out there and work your gimmick!
(The polls will be open for at least 24 hours. It doesn't matter who you vote for, just that you participate!)
