Greetings, grapple fans!
We're at the mid-point of the tournament and we've had quite a few shocking results and unexpected victories. Former champions are struggling to stay in contention, while underdogs are on cruise control! Will this trend continue? We've got a full lineup for tonight, and the possibilities are seemingly endless!
Block A:
Duke Mongoose (2) vs. Bad Luck Bradley (4)
It's their third singles meeting in JWA and a rematch from last year's J-1 Pinnacle. Last year the bout ended in a time limit draw. Last week Mongoose earned a victory over current World Heavyweight Champion and last year's J-1 winner Arizona Chance. A few weeks back Bradley and his tag partner Seph Kobane earned a victory over Duke and Penguino. Each man in this match has championship matches in their future, but given the history between these two, I don't think the future will be anywhere on their minds. Can Mongoose play spoiler to Bradley's incredible run, or will the Bad Luck Wrestler collect another victory and maintain his stranglehold on the Block?
Omega Satyros (1) vs. "Lord" Taylor Thorin (0)
Last week his Lordship was defeated in a hard fought bout against his nemesis Red Pirate Rogers in a Ship's Mast match. He's sure to still be feeling the effects of that battle as he fights to stay alive in the tournament tonight against Omega Satyros, who is likely still seething that he was unable to defeat Bad Luck Bradley last week. Both of these men entered the J-1 as favorites, but find themselves in a must-win situation here tonight. Win and stay in, lose and be mathematically eliminated!
Red Pirate Rogers (4) vs. Arizona Chance (1)
The World Heavyweight Champion is likely still reeling from his loss last week to Duke Mongoose, though his opponent will be wearing the scars of battle from his victory in the Ship's Mast match. Rogers shares the top spot in the group with Bad Luck Bradley, and a win here tonight over his friend and compatriot could further cement his lead, as well as earn him another shot at the gold. Meanwhile, The Franchise finds himself in the unexpected position of facing mathematical elimination in just the third round. Will the draw with Satyros in the opening round prove to be his downfall tonight?
Block B:
Tommy End (2) vs. Penguino (4)
I think it's safe to say that most people would have anticipated these two competitor's scores being reversed coming into tonight, but indeed Penguino sits atop the group and Tommy End is struggling to find his footing. A somewhat surprising loss to Pierre last week has put The Dutch Destroyer in an unenviable position, and Penguino has the unenviable task of having to face him! Can End pick up a crucial 2 points and stay alive in the tournament? Will Penguino and his Penguin Kai brother be celebrating a third straight victory?
Chad Shredsbury (4) vs. Seph Kobane (0)
Not so surprising is Chad sitting atop the group, considering he went to the finals last year. His opponent this week needs a victory and the two points it brings to have even the slimmest chance of winning. Kobane has shown to have limited motivation in the ring, but we've yet to see him with his back against the wall. Will Shredsbury have a cakewalk of a match tonight, or will he find himself in the fight of his life?
Chief Buffalo (0) vs. Pierre The Enormous (2)
In something of an upset, sentimental favorite Pierre picked up a massive victory last week over Tommy End. Can Pierre continue the momentum and score another victory this week? Chief Buffalo finds himself staring down the barrel of elimination, much like Seph Kobane, so we may see how the big Chief responds when he's backed into a corner. Buffalo has displayed a penchant for violence in the past. We may need to reinforce the ring for this battle of the behemoths!
Let's not waste any more time. Get out there and work your gimmick!
(The polls will be open for at least 24 hours. It doesn't matter who you vote for, just that you participate!)
