Greetings, grapple fans!
Tonight is the night when we settle who will face off in the finals of the 2023 J-1 Pinnacle Tournament. At least, I think. It could get a bit complicated with the way things have shaken out, especially in Block A, where a 4-way tie is mathematically possible. Meanwhile tonight's main event pits the two undefeated members of Block B against each other to determine who will advance. Unless, of course, they fight to a draw. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, I suppose. Let's take a look at tonight's card!
Block A:
Arizona Chance (5) vs. Bad Luck Bradley (5)
Last year things got weird between these two. I've appointed and independent adjudicator in an attempt to keep things from getting too out of hand this year. Unfortunately, the scuttlebutt around the locker room is that, perhaps, this idea has come back to bite me on the rear end. Regardless, both men in this match have the potential to advance to the finals with a victory and a little help in the other two bouts tonight. This is a rematch from last year we've all secretly been waiting for. And, for some of us, dreading.
Omega Satyros (3) vs. Red Pirate Rogers (6)
Rogers is the only man in Block A who can seal his trip to the finals with a victory here tonight. He would stand alone at the top of the group without needing any tiebreakers. However, he's facing an angry, disgraced, and motivated Omega Satyros who would love nothing more than to ruin Rogers' tournament. Can the Crimson Corsair reach the finals, or will he fall victim to a beating of mythological proportions?
Duke Mongoose (5) vs. "Lord" Taylor Thorin (0)
To say that his Lordship's tournament hasn't gone as he anticipated would be an understatement. Tonight he'll face his former tag team championship partner and try to ruin Duke's chances of making it to the finals. Duke could advance with a victory tonight and some help in the other two matches, but Thorin is not going to allow Duke to win without a fight. These two once fought alongside one another, and I imagine that Thorin might have a few tricks up his sleeve that other competitors might not have. Then again, the same could be said about Duke. Thorin is fighting for pride while Duke is fighting for Glory. Who will come out on top?
Block B:
Penguino (8) vs. Chad Shredsbury (8)
No disrespect to the other four competitors in Block B, but this is tonight's main event and the only match that really matters in the group. Both Penguino and Shredsbury have gone unbeaten in the group thus far, with the winner of this match claiming a spot in the finals next week. This is a rematch from Guts & Gory where Chad was victorious in a Penguin Kai Karate Fight. Tonight's match is under standard rules - will that favor Penguino? The only way one of these men doesn't advance to the finals is if they battle to a draw, in which case we'll have to figure out the best method of determining who advances. Either a rematch or perhaps a mini tournament if there is a tie in Block A as well. I guess we'll find out shortly!
Tommy End (2) vs. Chief Buffalo (2)
Two sinister men. Two points each. Neither man will want to finish with only two points. This one is about personal pride.
Seph Kobane (2) vs. Pierre The Enormous (2)
Two affable men. Two points each. Neither of these men will want to be end the tournament with just two points. Can Kobane pick up another upset victory? Will Pierre squeeze the life out of him?
(The polls will be open for at least 24 hours. It doesn't matter who you vote for, just that you participate!)
In addition to the J-1 Pinnacle Finals next week, we will also have a Women's World Championship match when Daisy Turner defends her title against Artemis! We expect to hear from those two, as well as others, during tonight's broadcast.
Let's get this final round of the J-1 underway! Get out there and work your gimmick!
