I got the same message, which I think all board members got. I don't know nothing about no Discord.
CORRECTION: I know one thing about it. I cannot access Discord from my work computer. It's blocked.

Just got a message from Mr Fantasy encouraging participation on Discord. I’m wondering if we wouldn’t find more users over there… do you all think that moving the fed to Discord would be beneficial? Do any of you have any experience with that platform? I've been on it for a couple years and am on the discord server Fantasy sent all of us. I do know roleplay servers are very common on Discord tho I'm not in any.

I'd be open to migrating if it was a suitable medium for our game, if it attracted more player and, most crucially, if everyone here could access Discord. Kip Whistler, if accessing JWA during work hours is critical to you being able to run things here, is this even a conversation worth having?

I agree with the sentiment that we could move if it were beneficial overall. I don't need to access JWA stuff from my work computer in order to post the show polls and update things, I usually do that from home. However, my participation during the day (as Duke) would be limited significantly since I would have to be using my phone during work hours. Does Discord work the same way with polls? That's kinda our thing.

Only major difference is that everyone has the option to see who voted for what - we'd know who refuses to do jobs! Formatting wouldn't be an issue either. We'd be best having one thread/text channel for Glory and all the P4Vs or else it would get overloaded pretty quickly with a new text channel being added each week, but that might make things a little more streamlined to be honest. Also for what it's worth the 8MWR discord will almost certainly have a younger userbase than this board does if that's an issue for any of y'all on the slightly older side.

Young blood is always welcome in this old-timer’s view. On that note, I brought up this discussion not because I’m dissatisfied. Quite the opposite— I’ve been enjoying the contributions of everyone lately. But, I also believe that opening the doors to others potentially multiplies the possibilities of fun matchups. And, let’s face it, ProBoards is a dying format. It’s like being on MySpace in 2010. Discord is something that has become popular enough that my 47 year old self has heard of it and been invited to use it by a couple groups, and it’s something I know Mack uses (not as much as Snap or Insta, but I digress). I do feel like it’s at least worth looking into a migration.

I just joined Discord to see what it looks like and maybe I'm just a cranky old man, but it looks like it would be an unruly mess to try to keep doing what we're doing. Am I wrong? It might be better for the general board discussion type things, but as far as what we've got going I'm not sure I understand how it would work.

I went looking up discord e-feds online and while I found one (inactive for 2 years) I couldn't make sense of it: the discord had different threads for p4vs but all that was posted was results, I couldn't see any activity like promos or anything.
This lead to me to look up different types of roleplaying games to see what type of rpg best defines what we do (we're not a D&D style game, which is very popular on Discord), and the closest thing I could find was "Play by Post" RPGs. I then went to look for examples of play by post rpgs on Discord, however all I could find was a YT vid of a guy talking about playing those on Discord - and he still advocated for a forum to do the actual promos etc and the Discord was more like... a player lobby, I guess?
I'm not sure what to suggest in that case. Like Thumper, I'm not disatisfied with what we have here and happy for it to continue as is. However if we want to attract new players from the 8MWR users, we'll need to have some kind of presence on the Discord: which would require a lot of messing around to see if we can work the game over there, or we could just migrate our OOC channels over there so we at least have a presence and a throughline back here for the actual matches and promos? Just a thought.

I think it could work over there, but you'd need separate channels for each thing I think:
So your main "heading" would be "JWA" (like how they have Servier Info, 80's, MMW etc) , then under that you'd need separate channels for all the stickied posts, plus 1 channel for TV, 1 channel for Midweek Misc, 1 channel for Mania and 1 channel for PPVs
So really the only difference would be rather than having a new thread for each tv show/ppv, they'd all be posted on there.
One plus would be it would be easier to use graphics, pictures and the like.
For security though you'd need to get Admin access/Moderator access for that section. You can then lock and limit who posts on each channel.

I'd be very open about moving the fed to discord, it's what I mainly use and it'll actually help me remember about JWA as recently I've also been forgetting about proboards existing because I've been doing feds in discord and my work on Journey of Wrestling. I could help out in the creating process as I do run my own fed on discord.

The only issue I can think of is how we may not get many new users from the DWRP community due to how different our style of roleplay is

If Daisy or anyone else wants to take the reigns and do a "proof of concept" on Discord, I'm all for it. Personally I don't know how we would transition what we do here onto there, and I don't have the time or patience to figure it out.

That's something I'd genuinely love the opporunity to play around with but sadly I'm juggling three projects at work and two young kids at home so I don't see occasion for me to do something like that this side of Christmas
