I just bought Smackdown vs Raw 2008 for the PS3 and it should get delivered early next week. I wanted to try the GM Mode after watching the series Xavier Woods and Tyler Breeze are doing on UpUpDownDown, but I have never owned a Smackdown vs Raw game before.
Does anyone have any tips, recommendations or other things I should know about before I get started?

Probably Smackdown. Seems the most fun to book since it has the cruiserweight division.

Alright other then getting CWs you should also balance your roster with face, heels, tags and popularity you don't have to waste alot of cash trying to get contacts You should also try to get wrestlers with a signature match type for example JTG he's a CW and has a signature match type being hardcore When you try to trade they're going to want popularity over anything (I think world is +5 US is +3 tag is +3 and CW is +3) but he sure to check if the person you want has a title because you could probably get them with a less popular star When it comes to making a match it doesn't matter to play it's all based off their popularity but a title match has a bit of a boost Make sure to check on a wrestlers morale because some will just join another show because they are not happy Buy storylines that fit what your roster has like David vs Goliath (LHW- vs HW+) and always put them against each other in some way or it'll cancel out also pick a good length and try to build it up (I forgot how but there is a way) Also try the career mode first to get some money so you can buy some more stars There's more but I don't remember

I read that there are some wrestlers that are locked at the beginning of the game. Any tips on how to unlock them before I start GM Mode?

Any tips on how to unlock them before I start GM Mode? yeah some you have to buy with money in the game (I don't recommend that you buy Vince, Shane, JBL, or Tommy) which you can get in the career mode in 24/7 mode (I mostly do the bad guy movie for quick cash) (it has a different name but I forgot) and I think you can unlock some in the HoF mode or whatever it's called such as stone cold and Mick Foley (and when you start be sure to activate them before you start)

Oh and after WM two random wrestlers from each show will switch and the champion will be save and there should be a 3-way at WM the winner picks a superstar on their show to also be safe

I've also got svr 2008 on ps3, just a few tips to get started.
There's a hall of fame mode which is where you can unlock legends. Just do those matches, and then you are available to buy them.
To get heaps of money quick, just simulate a few years of 24/7 mode using Triple H. Easy money.
I recommend using legends just because I think it makes GM mode more fun.
Trophy dates! Do heaps of trophy dates! That's an easy way to increase wrestler's popularity!
And I think the rating system is a little bit biased. Am I right or am I just a sore loser? You can be the judge.
Have fun! I really enjoyed playing GM Mode (don't play season mode, it's trash).

Well, it wouldn't be the WWE if they didn't try to screw over their own employees, so I guess it adds to the realism of the game.
Is there any reason not to use the legends? Are they overpowered compared to the regular roster?

no they just add in quantity and some are very popular also there are some feuds called greatest of all time(2), legend killer(1) & returning legend(1) that require a legend

The only overpowered wrestler is John Cena (overall 97)
The legends aren't actually all that overpowered. I usually use Rick Rude as a midcarder.

Ah, dude I love that game, especially playing gm or exhibition with my brother. It had sandman, Sabu, & even ratedRKO, so it's pretty great. Career sucks, tho. I was Johnny Nitro, and I was feuding with Cena, but in that constant cutscene they acted like friends. But other than that, GREAT game. Be careful how much you spend on contracts, I spent too much, getting all the big stars, and that bit me in the ass.

Got the game today and spent some time getting to know the controls and unlocking the legends (except from Mr. McMahon obviously). I put all of them (except Shane) in free agency and I'll draft a roster tomorrow.
